Repsol’s estimated total installed cost for the project is expected to be about $4.8 billion. Fluor’s scope of work on the project is worth approximately $1.3 billion and was booked into backlog in the company’s fourth quarter of 2007.

The project scope includes the design and construction of new units and the refurbishment and expansion of existing units, as well as construction of the utilities and offsites.

Manuel Junco, senior vice president of downstream operations for Fluor, said: Fluor has been working closely with Repsol for the past two years executing conceptual and front-end engineering and design for the project. In addition to doubling refinery capacity, the new configuration will allow the flexibility of processing a wider range in quality of crude oil.
