The plant is expected to produce 18MW of industrial steam for Genencor and district heating for the town of Hanko. The plant will be commissioned by the end of 2009. The plant will use domestic renewable bio-fuels, replacing currently utilized heavy fuel oil.

Antti Kosola, plant manager at Genencor, said: At Genencor, we believe that sustainable development requires a balance between nature and our human interests. To maintain this balance, we aim at producing safe products while constantly developing our operations to better meet the principles of sustainable development. The new thermal plant utilizing domestic woodchip will reduce the carbon footprint of our products’ lifecycle.
