The Mexican national utility, Comision Federal de Electricidad (CFE), has placed an order for four geothermal power plants with the French company Alstom. The deal is worth around $110 million.

The four plants will be located in Los Azuires, Michoacan state. Each will have a generating capacity of 25MW. They will utilise high temperature groundwater from a geothermal field heated by magma to generate power.

Alstom is already involved in a number of other projects in Mexico, including a coal-fired project, three gas turbine combined cycle plants and a hydropower scheme.
