EDF Energies Nouvelles (EDF EN), the renewables arm of electric utility EDF, has been selected for the development of the 24MW PGL floating wind farm at the Faraman site located 15km off the coast.

The PGL project will feature three Siemens-developed turbines with 8MW capacity each.

The turbines will be installed on floating foundations, which will be provided by SBM and IPFEN, reported reNews.

Additionally, Engie, EDP Renovaveis, French bank Caisse des depots (CDC) and Eiffage have secured contracts to build the 24MW EFGL wind farm about 13km off the coast in the Leucate area.

GE will supply four 6MW turbines for the project, which will feature floating platform provided by Eiffage and PPI.

The energy ministry also ordered coastline coordinators to assess and identify potential areas for future marine energy auctions, reported SeeNews Renewables.

In July, the French Environment and Energy Management Agency (ADEME) has awarded contracts to a Quadran-led EolMed consortium and a joint venture of French group Eolfi and Chinese nuclear group CGN to pilot floating wind parks off its coast.

The tender is part of the government’s efforts to develop wind farms aimed at testing industrial-scale floating offshore wind technology.
