The plant is planned to be located in Sorriso, Mato Grosso and will be constructed with an investment of R$1bn ($307m). It is expected to produce about 680 million liters of ethanol per year, while generating more than 1,500 direct and indirect jobs.
According to the company, the second plant will have a larger area than the first plant and is expected to enhance FS Bioenergia’s position in the country, by more than doubling ethanol production and distiller's dried grains with solubles (DDGS) levels.
The plant will have a storing capacity of 400,000 tons of corn.
The combined production of the two plants (Lucas do Rio Verde and Sorriso) is estimated to have a production capacity of 1.2 billion liters of ethanol, 900,000 tons of corn bran and 35,000 tons of corn oil per year.
FS Bioenergia CEO Henriqe Ubrig said: “The region of Sorriso and the state of Mato Grosso, as a whole, is extremely important and strategic to the FS Bioenergia and being close to these producers in Sorriso will give us even more enhancement to innovate and continue to produce with the quality that we seek.”
Biomass for the plant will be supplied from a forest of 30,000 hectares of eucalyptus trees, planted in collaboration with FS Bioenergia. The new plant will have a capacity of energy cogeneration of 170,000MWh per year, which is enough to be supplied to a city of about 70,000 inhabitants.
The first plant, which was built with an investment of $115m, in Lucas do Rio Verde started production in August last year. Apart from ethanol and co-products for livestock feed, FS Bioenergia produces 60GW of electricity to the local power grid.
