To be equally owned by the partners, the joint venture will undertake design, manufacturing, installation, commissioning and services of offshore wind turbines.

Adwen has a pipeline of 2.8GW of projects under development and aims to control 20% of the European market by 2020.

Registered in Zamudio, Spain, Adwen employs 700 people.

Adwen’s portfolio includes 5MW platform including the AD 5-135 and AD 5-132, and 8MW platform AD 8MW.

The 5MW turbines are immediately available while the 8MW will begin serial production in 2018.

The turbines, which are suitable for North Sea and Baltics offshore wind projects, will be manufactured by Adwen at its existing plants in Germany, Bremerhaven and Stade.

Areva Renewable Energies CEO Louis-Francois Durret will serve as the chairman of Adwen while Gamesa’s offshore activities chief operating officer Luis Alvarez will be appointed as the general manager.
