The new G126-2.5 MW turbine with 126m-long rotor can be customized to have different tower heights ranging from 84m, 102m and 129m.

This employs the same technology that was proved and validated in Gamesa’s 2.0-2.5MW platform, with installation of over 20,000MW in 34 countries.

The turbine’s 62m blades use the technology already validated in the G114’s 56m blades, the company said.

The G126-2.5MW turbine is said to increase energy production in low wind areas by 25% relative to the G114-2.0 MW.

The first model of the turbine will be installed in the third quarter of 2016, with plans to begin serial production by 2017.

Gamesa marketing director Juan Diego Díaz said: "By launching the G126-2.5 MW, we are offering our customers one of the most competitive products in the 2 MW – 3 MW segment for low wind speeds."

Simultaneously, Gamesa will partner with the government of Bahía in Brazil to support the skill transfer and scientific and technological development in wind power, as part of a collaboration agreement.

The partners will set up Gamesa University, which will train over 200 wind farm operators every year.

The company also recently agreed to build a 40MW wind farm in India for ReNew Power.

The Lingsagur wind farm in the Indian state of Karnataka will include 20 units of Gamesa G97-2.0 MW class S turbines.
