Scheduled to be launched in September 2016, the blade factory will be capable of manufacturing 250 blades with a total capacity of 500MW per year.

Employing 400 people, the facility has been built to produce the G114-2.0 MW class S model turbines suitable for wind conditions in India. It will be the company’s second blade factory in India.

Gamesa India CEO Ramesh Kymal said: "The start-up of this new facility evidences our industrial pledge in India and our commitment to developing the country’s wind power and broader manufacturing infrastructure.

"By opening our third factory, we are stepping up our operations in a priority region for Gamesa, while generating wealth via job creation and purchases from local suppliers."

Gamesa also operates a blade factory in Halol in the state of Gujarat, as well as a nacelle factory and a repair centre in Chennai, Tamil Nadu.

In India, Gamesa has commissioned more than 1GW of capacity in the last 12 months.

Separately, Gamesa launched a prototype of its offgrid solution for the supply of power in remote areas without grid access.

The system integrates four sources of power such as solar, wind, diesel and batteries with installed capacity of more than 2MW, offering cheaper and cleaner power without a grid connection.
