The scope of the contract includes the supply of ten G114-2.0 MW turbines and a 12-year operation and maintenance services agreement.

The new turbines, with a rotor spanning 114m, produces 20% more energy a year at lower cost; their sweep area is 38% greater than that of the G97-2.0 MW; and maximizes the performance, the company claims.

The Gamesa turbines, which are suitable for low wind speed sites, are scheduled for delivery in mid-2014 and the commissioning of the facility is expected by the end of 2014. Once operational, the plant will sell its entire output to DTE Energy under a 20-year power purchase agreement.

Gamesa CTO Jose Malumbres said that the company’s G114-2.0 MW model represents important milestone in the evolution of the 2MW and 2.5MW turbines.

"A team of Gamesa engineers from multiple disciplines advanced this product enhancement over the past two years, building on the track record accrued from our experience and technological knowledge from the existing 2 MW platform’s millions of operating hours and carrying out the firm’s most extensive component and sub-system validation program to date," added Malumbres.
