Sergey Kupriyanov, Gazprom’s official spokesman, said: “According to the agreements reached by the heads of governments of Russia and Ukraine, Gazprom and NAK Naftogaz are preparing the gas transit agreement and a contract on gas supplies for Ukrainian consumers for subsequent signing.

“We agreed on the restoration of the Russian gas transit by Ukraine via its territory as well as on conditions of work in 2009 and during the follow-on period.”

At the same time, the Russian monitors were kept out of the previously agreed points of monitoring – Ukrainian underground gas storage facilities and the ODU center. By this the Ukrainian party continues to break the current gas transit contract as well as Terms of reference for the monitoring of the transit of natural gas signed in Brussels by the European Commission, Russia and Ukraine.

In the meantime Russia keeps gas valves open at Sudja gas metering station at the entry point to the Ukrainian gas transmission system, said the company.

Gazprom is engaged in geological exploration, production, transmission, storage, processing and marketing of gas and other hydrocarbons.
