Under the terms of the agreement, GDF SUEZ will sell about 0.6 million tonnes of LNG to Petronet.
Delivery will be from sources within GDF SUEZ’ LNG portfolio to Petronet’s Dahej LNG terminal in India.
Petronet LNG managing director A K Balyan said this agreement with GDF SUEZ will help in minimizing the gas shortage the country is facing due to lower domestic gas production.
GDF SUEZ will deliver up to about 8.2 million tonnes to Kogas, CNOOC, Petronas and Petronet between 2010 and 2016.
Furthermore, Petronet is building a second LNG terminal in Kochi in the Indian state of Kerala which will have 5 million tonnes per annum capacity, scheduled to be completed by the end of 2012.
