The acquired projects include 17MW Acres wind farm near Ballyshannon Country and 34MW Barranafaddock wind farm near Ballyduff County.

The 51MW wind farms, which are now under construction, will be powered by GE’s.85MW wind turbines with 103m rotors.

The projects are expected to produce clean energy to power around 33,300 homes in the country and avoid the emission of about 75,000 tons of greenhouse gases.

GE Energy Financial Services managing director Andrew Marsden said the projects highlight company’s interest in deploying capital in Ireland’s energy sector.

"The combination of Ireland’s strong wind resources with a stable regulatory regime and well-structured feed-in tariff for wind energy present attractive growth opportunities for us, our partners and the country," added Marsden.
