The agreement sets up the general framework for the companies to cooperate with each other in information exchange.

The information will be helpful to assess, develop and implement the first POME biogas independent power producer (IPP) under the joint exercise as well as the joint development of POME biogas to the power market in Malaysia.

Under the agreement, GE will support a joint development program on POME biogas-to-power potential within the Malaysian palm industry by providing expertise in gas engines technology and resources.

The alliance will use GNS’ technology to provide a solution for waste-to-power, whereas GE will provide its engines featuring long service intervals, an engine design and low fuel consumption.

The companies will be able to contribute to realizing the targets of the Sustainable Energy Development Authority of Malaysia (SEDA), which sets targets of 11% renewable energy usage by consumers and the industrial sector by 2020.

The agreement also sets a landmark for cooperation with Felda Global Ventures (FGV) in the palm oil sector.

A biogas power generation facility from POME waste will also be set up at a new oil palm mill site at FELDA Kahang in Kluang, Johor, through the collaboration.

Said to be the first build operate own (BOO) model with FGV, the project is expected to begin operations by December 2014.
