Mumbida wind farm will generate 55MW of renewable electricity for the geographical area South West Interconnected System in the country.

The project is located 40 kilometers southeast of Geraldton, in the Australia/New Zealand region which marks the first use of GE wind turbines.

The 50/50 partnership project between Australia’s government-owned utility,Verve Energy, and Macquarie Capital will produce power to approximately 35,000 homes and offset about 165,000 tons of greenhouse gas emissions per year.

GE Energy CEO Tim Rourke said the project will be the first wind turbine contract secured by the company and are pleased to play an active role in the renewable energy market in reducing its carbon footprint.

GE 2.5 series wind turbine is designed for a high level of reliability and offers advanced grid integration features and can take maximum advantage of the exceptional wind resources in Western Australia, Rourke added.
