Based in Mansfield, Monsal provides anaerobic digestion technology, biogas and biowaste processes and services for the water and energy industry.

Monsal delivers a complete technology package to utilities, waste management firms and energy developers.

Monsal’s advanced anaerobic digestion technology and industry knowledge will allow GE to help municipalities and industrial manufacturers transfer from disposing of wastewater treatment by-products to generate renewable electricity.

GE Power & Water president and CEO of water and process technologies Heiner Markhoff said GE has been working to further develop the water reuse, wastewater and tough-to-treat water technologies for several years.

"The acquisition of Monsal, with its advanced anaerobic digestion technology, will enable us to provide our customers with more energy-efficient options for water treatment solutions," Markhoff added.

"Now our wastewater treatment solutions can be combined with new, advanced anaerobic digestion technologies to convert biosolids to renewable sources of energy for our customers."

Monsal managing director Aidan Cumiskey said joining the GE family will enable the company to expand its technologies and R&D capabilities.

"We expect to expand our product and technology range with the GE resource, so that we become the ‘go-to’ company globally for anaerobic digestion," Cumiskey added.
