Under the $33m contract, awarded by Kinetics Technology, GE will provide the compression equipment, which will be installed at the refinery.

The equipment will recover significant amount of hydrocarbons to transfer low-value refinery off-gases into a low-cost petrochemical feedstock.

The project is part of Total’s $1.3bn investment aimed at expanding and enhancing the Antwerp refinery capabilities.

Total will recover hydrocarbons by processing them as feed streams in the existing naphtha cracker.

In addition to delivering turboexpander-driven compressor and project management, parts and installation services, GE will provide several compressor applications, including ethylene and propylene refrigeration, saturated and unsaturated off-gas compressors, as part of the contract.

GE Oil & Gas downstream products & services business general manager Girish Saligram said: "This latest order with Total underscores the intense focus that our customers have on improving the operating efficiency of their plants.

"We worked very closely with Total and KT Tecnimont to tailor the design of our equipment to meet specific operational goals and to package our compressor and driver technology for the project needs."

GE plans to deliver the equipment in the third quarter of 2015 while the Total’s expanded ROG facility is scheduled to commence operations in early 2017.
