Spain-based Técnicas Reunidas, the engineering, procurement and construction contractor of the oil refinery upgrade project, has selected GE for the sub-contract.

The upgrade project of the oil refinery is being undertaken to meet the reliability and safety requirements.

Under the equipments contract, GE will supply a steam turbine, two Frame 6B gas turbines, and three generators to the project contractor.

The scope of work under the equipments contract also includes performance testing, services, spare parts and technical advisors.

Under the service agreement, GE will provide maintenance services to the Tupras oil refinery for 12 years.

Técnicas Reunidas CEO Juan Lladó stated, "With its locally available resources and broad base of technology and services, GE is an excellent partner for a project as challenging and complex as the Tupras refinery upgrade."

GE Power & Water Thermal Products president and CEO Paul Browning said the requirements of safety and reliability for refineries ars very stringent.

"GE’s proven 6B gas turbine technology will bring added security and robust availability to the already high standards of Tupras’ petrochemical operations," Browning added.

The company will also power a cogeneration site to generate consistent supply of energy and steam to meet the growing needs of the Tupras facility.
