Under the contract, GE will supply the LM6000-PC Sprint gas turbines, which can burn both liquid fuel and natural gas, for the 97MW plant.

The power plant would lead to increasing utilization of cleaner and more efficient energy technology than traditional fossil fuels in the local power generation industry.

GE Philippines and Guam power generation manager Dennis Villasper said: "The same reliability, efficiency, low-emission levels and fast-start capabilities from the CF6 are carried over into the LM6000-PC Sprint, providing a remarkably simple yet effective solution to address power needs quickly and flexibly."

The LM6000-PC Sprint is a fast, flexible and efficient power turbine designed to meet the needs of the local power grid.

The turbines can accommodate a variety of operating needs, including fast starts and peak loads, with high availability and reliability.

GE Philippines chief executive officer Jocot de Dios said: "We are thrilled to be collaborating with First Gen in addressing the growing energy needs of the Philippines with our distributed power technology."

The Avion power plant will use Malampaya gas and diesel fuel to address future power crises in 2015 onwards.
