The facilities considered for upgrade work include 400MW Enfield and 1,200MW Grain combined-cycle power plants.

Under the contract, GE will provide equipment upgrades as part of its new Fleet360 services platform of total power plant solutions and includes a full suite of digital, plant and gas turbine solutions.

Additionally, GE will provide its Operations Optimization software on a GT26 gas turbine.

GE said that the upgrades are part of Uniper UK’s efforts to increase performance, deliver competitive costs and meet additional environmental and flexibility requirements.

The two power plants will be upgraded with full suite of digital, plant and gas turbine solutions in a bid to boost its capacity by up to 4%, extend maintenance intervals by up to 33%, reduce fuel consumption and improve plant flexibility.

GE’s Power Services president and CEO Paul McElhinney said: "We are delighted to work with Uniper to demonstrate the added value of GE’s Operations Optimization software to give plant operators greater real-time oversights into the condition of their generation equipment.

“Our new Fleet360 services platform of total plant solutions allows us to offer customers like Uniper the capabilities to help increase the efficiency, availability and operational flexibility of their combined-cycle plants in the UK.”

GE said that the contract marks the first installation of its Operations Optimization software on a GT26 gas turbine, allowing Uniper to monitor and predict key plant performance indicators.
