The company has scheduled the auction in April 2013 to sell transmission scheduling rights, which will become available on 1 July 2012 and last through 31 October 2014.

The VFT smart grid project uses GE technology to enable a simple and controlled transmission path between power grids.

The rights could be used the project’s customers to sell power capacity and energy sourced in the PJM Interconnection’s regional control area into the New York Independent System Operator (NYISO) regional control area.

Located at the intersection of the NYISO Zone J and PJM power grids, the Linden VFT could transfer 315MW of capacity, enough for up to 315,000 households in the region.

The project had begun commercial operation in late 2009, and sits adjacent to GE Energy Financial Services’ 900MW Linden cogeneration power plant.
