The farm employs over 150,000 advanced thin film PV modules develped by US-based First Solar, expected to reduce annual greenhouse gas emissions by 20,000t.

First Solar also provided engineering and construction services besides securing the contract to operate and maintain the project for next 15 years.

Verve Energy CEO Jason Waters remarked that the project was Australia’s largest photovoltaic solar and will help the country future energy needs on a sustainable, cost-competitive basis.

"With this landmark project now complete, partners Verve Energy and GE Energy Financial Services are now evaluating the possibility of expanding the plant to up to 40-megawatts to satisfy growing demand for renewable energy," Waters said.

The Greenough River Solar Farm is a 50:50 venture of Verve & GE Energy Financial Services with the Western Australian government providing A$20m ($20.6m) in funding.
