The EMAL smelter complex is situated in the Khalifa Industrial Zone Abu Dhabi in Al Taweelah, Abu Dhabi, and is a joint venture project between Mubadala Development and Dubai Aluminium.

GE has won the sub-contract from Korea-based engineering, procurement and construction company Samsung C&T, who is building a 1,000MW gas-fired combined-cycle power plant to generate electricity for the EMAL complex.

Under the equipments contract, GE will provide three Frame 9F 3-series gas turbine generators and two SC5 steam turbine generators and a plant-wide control system for the Phase 2 expansion of the EMAL project.

The company will also upgrade six GE Frame 9F 3-series gas turbines at the EMAL Phase I. Of the six gas turbines, four turbines will receive DLN 2.6+ upgrades.

In addition, all the six turbines will receive compressor enhancements and cooling optimization packages.

GE, under its services contract, will deliver long-term maintenance support for GE gas turbines at both EMAL Phase 1 and Phase 2 to improve performance, maintenance costs, and access to its latest technology.
