E.ON has been told by the regulator to cut its power transmission fees by a massive 16%, while RWE’s Westfalen-Weser-Ems unit has been ordered to reduce its fees by a slightly more modest 10%.

The developments come as German Economics Minister Michael Glos has called for greater fairness in grid access fees, the Dow Jones MarketWatch has reported. Mr Glos particularly pointed to his dissatisfaction in gas network prices.

The German energy markets are currently in the process of liberalizing and it is hoped that greater network access will spur greater competition and fairer prices. Currently Mr Glos believes that the difference between power generation costs and wholesale prices are too high.
