A Canadian plan to reward countries that export nuclear reactors with emissions credits has been denounced by the German government.

Canada has been pushing hard for credits to allow it to avoid having to achieve its Kyoto targets of cutting greenhouse gas emissions to 6 per cent below 1990 levels by 2012. Canada hoped that the other participating countries would allow it to set aside its goals as a reward for exporting nuclear technology. However, Germany strongly rejected the Canadian request.
