The government has decided to ease subsidies as part of negotiations with solar-power industry officials.

The profits for companies such as Solarworld AG and Q-Cells SE is at stake, as the government guarantees a price to producers of solar-powered systems that’s about five times the price paid for nuclear power.

“There will be an adjustment, because we have a market development that’s clearly led to an overburdening,” said Roettgen. “The goal is to develop a mechanism that reacts flexibly to market developments. The current regulation is too rigid.”
