The 200MW Prairie Rose wind facility will consist of about 125 wind turbines to be constructed across 25,000 acres of leased land.

The energy generated from the project, placed in Rock and Pipestone Counties, will power the equivalent of 60,000 homes.

Xcel Energy said the company has filed the contract with the Minnesota Public Utilities Commission for approval.

Construction on the power project is expected to start by the end of this year and will be completed by the end of next year.

Northern States Power, an Xcel Energy firm, president and CEO Judy Poferl said the project allows the company to capture the benefit of federal tax credits set to expire at the end of next year.
