BHE Renewables will buy the 400MW Grande Prairie and about 225MW Walnut Ridge wind projects in Nebraska and Illinois, respectively.
The Grande Prairie wind farm is anticipated to enter into construction phase this year and start operations in 2016. Omaha Public Power District will buy the entire output from the facility after completion.
The Walnut Ridge wind project is still under development and is planned for construction in 2016. The facility has a power purchase agreement for 140MW of capacity with the General Services Administration (GSA) of the US Government.
The solar portfolio to be acquired by BHE Renewables includes seven projects in Minnesota that are part of Xcel Energy’s Community Solar Garden Program.
Construction of the facilities is expected to take place in 2016 and is being marketed towards Xcel’s Solar Rewards community program.
Geronimo Energy president Blake Nixon said: "Our relationship with BHE Renewables will help us deliver on our promise to positively impact the projects’ host community economies and make substantial investments in America’s farmland."
Geronimo has developed several operating wind farms and solar projects across the Midwestern US.
About 1GW of wind projects and 200MW of solar projects developed by the company in the Midwest are expected to be built by the end of 2016.
