The PROLEC-GE Solar Pad-Mounted Transformer will meet the expanding solar energy integration needs.

The solution will transform the energy generated by photovoltaic cells in solar facilities from low voltage to medium voltage.

GE said the transformer will support the solar industry’s annual growth of 13%, which is anticipated to continue for various years.

The transformer includes electrostatic shield as a standard feature, which will help in isolating the low voltage windings from the high-frequency pulses that appear in the medium voltage system.

GE noted that the new solar product line transformers can be designed to help customers identify the cost-effective configuration as per their needs.

The transformers can be equipped with two low-voltage windings, allowing the user to link two inverters to reduce the operating cost and first investment.

PROLEC-GE commercial director Rosario Lopez said: "The increasing importance of solar generation will require grid operators and the photovoltaic industry to develop strategies to ensure solar continues to play a major part in the global generation mix.

"Our three-phase pad-mounted transformer solution will help to support solar growth trends by improving the ROI for solar developments."

PROLEC-GE, which is a joint venture between GE and Xignux, has installed products in over 35 countries globally.
