Investments will be employed to add an additional 500MW of power to the country’s current power generation capacity of 2,443MW and make good on the President Dramani Mahama’s pledge to bring the entire nation under the coverage of electricity by 2016.

Commenting on the current state of affairs Energy Ministry spokesperson Edward Bawa reminded that the country had 10,000 solar panel installations that did not have access to the national grid.

"We are doing a test run of wind-energy installations in the Central region," added Bawa.

The country will also add a hydroelectric plant on a dam at Bui that will bring in an additional 400MW of power in the first quarter of 2013 to ease the power crisis in the country.
