With the new developments, the company intends to supply about 60 million tonnes of coal per year, reports mining.com.

Glencore plans to start new production by 2015, while it has already started first production from its projects in the country.

The company will invest about $9.2m to develop Wonderfontein project, which is expected to expand the life of Umcebo, a property the company acquired in 2011.

The bulk investment include $81m in the Tweefontein operation, in which the company holds 80% interest, and the mine is expected to add 13.6 million tonnes of coal from the fourth quarter of 2014.

The company has projects such as Goedgevonden thermal-coal complex in the Mpumalanga province, Helena underground chrome mine on the eastern limb of Bushveld Complex, Wonderkop ferrochrome plant in the North West Province and Eland platinum mine near Pretoria in the country.
