The 11 turbine project, with an installed capacity of 25.3MW, would generate enough renewable energy to power around 13,500 homes.*

Juliet Davenport OBE, CEO and founder of Good Energy said: "We believe The Big Field Wind Farm can provide a lasting positive legacy for the environment and the local community, and we are proud to put our name to it. Having consulted locally for over a year, we believe this project meets all planning requirements and supports both local and national renewables targets."

Good Energy is proposing a wide range of local benefits, including:

Working closely with local landowners and the Farming and Wildlife Advisory Group South West to show how farming and wildlife can flourish alongside renewable energy.

An outdoor learning centre at the heart of the wind farm where local children can learn about renewables and the environment.

A local community fund worth £63,250 a year rising with inflation – for the lifetime of the project

The offer of local dual fuel and electricity tariffs, 20% cheaper than Good Energy’s standard regional tariffs, to all households within 5km of The Big Field Wind Farm.

A commitment to using Cornish and South West suppliers wherever possible during construction and operation of the wind farm.

The Big Field Wind Farm is located on farmland between the villages of Week St Mary, Jacobstow, Warbstow, North Petherwin and Whitstone, around nine miles south of Bude.

The area has been chosen because of its location in a natural bowl, good wind resource and connectivity to the electricity grid – there are existing pylons crossing the site. The site is outside any designated landscape area and the land would continue to be farmed.

Over the last year Good Energy has held extensive meetings with local people and organisations, has staged two well-attended public exhibitions and has hand-delivered information brochures to more than 700 local households. Following feedback and site investigations, the number of turbines, which would be up to 125m high, was reduced from 14 to 11.

The company has also conducted turbine tours for the local community around its Delabole wind farm in response to requests, and the offer of a dual fuel local tariff has come about as a direct result of feedback.
