Under the partnership deal, the parties will complete development work on the purification process for high technology commercial applications.

A notice of invention was recently filed by PRO to protect the intellectual property that supports the flake graphite purification process to 99.9%.

They intend to develop a purification process to achieve a graphite product of +99% purity.

The planned development program will feature chemical analysis and determination of impurities present, physical beneficiation tests, chemical leaching with PRO’s purification process, and chemical analysis and particle size analysis at selected points.

Great Lakes Graphite CEO Paul Gorman said: "With Matheson squarely on track for commissioning later this year, we believe now is the right time to proceed with our plan for the graphite purification area.

"We are delighted to have the opportunity to work together with Process Research Ortech on an initiative which has the potential to deliver significant benefits to both of our respective businesses."

Great Lakes via its Innovations Division is currently recommissioning a micronization facility, based in Ontario, Canada, for re-start in late 2015.
