The building, located in the municipality of Rion-des-Landes, was designed to create ideal cultivation conditions for a Ginseng plantation.

A part of the Korean Hanwha Group, Hanwha Solar provided 7.7 MW of the total 8.7 MW from 36,900 PV panels on the 9ha rooftop.

As the Ginseng plant grows only in shady areas, the large rooftop protects the plants, while the PV modules produce energy.

The Ginseng plants facility is expected to produce 10,000,000 kWh a year. With the installation, the building also secures the financial funding of the project.

Hanwha Solar president Charles Kim said that the Rion-des-Landes plant demonstrates how synergies with solar energy can successfully bring innovative projects forward.

"France is one of our key markets in Europe and we will continuously expand our presence and engagement here," Kim added.
