This initiative followed the disaggregation of Hilton’s SGUs by the June 30 deadline by Blackstone, the hotel’s overseas parent. Hilton is only the second international hotel chain to be included on the Environment Agency’s June 28 list of registered participants.

The deadline for disaggregation has been extended to July 31, which means the other hotel and leisure operators will have to disaggregate within one month or else individual chains’ performance will be incorporated into that of the parent organization and reported in combination in the CRC league table.

Hilton, in addition to registering has also secured the early action metrics qualifiers including the Carbon Trust Standard and Automatic Monitoring Reading (AMR). The company said that it is planning to adopt a wider strategy for reducing its carbon emissions and has also put in place processes for evidence pack collation in advance of the first reporting deadline of July 2011.

Dave Covell, principal of Environ, said: “Environmental performance, especially for public facing operators, is key to reputation. Having been disaggregated by the end of July, they will still have to complete registration by September 30.

“Another worrying statistic is that only 522 organizations so far have registered for the CRC, which is only about 10% of the 5,000 expected by the end of September. Organizations need to get cracking, especially those with multiple sites as they will have multi-ownership, landlord & tenant and complex data and site issues that must be dealt with.”
