Hitachi America is a wholly owned subsidiary of Hitachi and Demansys Energy is a smart grid technology company in the US.

In 2014, Demansys and Hitachi had an agreement to perform a demonstration project utilizing Hitachi’s CrystEna for frequency regulation and capacity services.

Over the two-year period, the demonstration project will gather data, including a capacity pilot project with PJM Interconnection and frequency regulation operation in PJM, an independent grid operator in US.

In addition to assessing the effectiveness of the system for grid stabilization, the demonstration project will evaluate the energy storage systems as well as validate its reliability and effectiveness to enable large deployments in ancillary services market in the US.

Demansys CTO and co-founder Adam Todorski said: "This facility was an exciting project to engineer and build, and further expands Demansys’ portfolio of cutting edge power control offerings."

Hitachi project manager Atsushi Honzawa said: "CrystEna has been formed from collaboration throughout the whole Hitachi Group, which can help to maintain the grid balance and is essential for stable use of renewable energy."

"Through the expansion of projects relating to grid stabilization such as CrystEna business, we hope to contribute to the adoption of clean energy."
