Hochtief Solutions will start work on the new power plant in 2013. The project encompasses two complex construction lots in the Andes, approximately 30km southeast of Santiago at a height of 2500m. The main elements are the intake structures, a total of 18.5km of tunnelling and a 5km-long steel pipeline. In addition, the consortium will take over execution planning. Construction work for the 531MW power plant will be completed in 2017.

Ullrich Reinke, member of the Executive Board of Hochtief Solutions said: “With our know-how and experienced co-workers in tunnelling and power plant construction, we are making a major contribution to sustainable energy supplies in high-growth markets.”

With this contract Hochtief has added to its South american-hydro portfolio. The company has also worked on La Confluencia hydro power project in Chile, which was completed in 2011, and is also working on the Cheves hydro power plant which is currently under construction in Peru.
