Significant progress has been made over the past 24 hours as crews responded to hundreds of localized outages, removing damaged tree limbs and repairing electrical equipment.

About 500 customers remain without power on April 26, 2009. April 25, 2009 storm saw winds of up to 100 kilometers per hour, resulting in toppled hydro poles, downed lines and trees.

Much of the damage to the electrical distribution system has been caused by falling trees and branches. Many poles have been broken and electrical equipment such as conductors, insulators, switches and transformers were damaged.

Hydro Ottawa reports that all outages have been restored with the exception of areas comprising of Shillington, Britannia, Lenester, City View, Stittsville Vanier and Rockcliffe.

If customers outside of these areas are still without power, they should call Hydro Ottawa’s power outage information line at 613 738-0188 and speak to a live agent to report the outage.

Hydro Ottawa is working to restore power to all customers as quickly and safely as possible. The utility urges members of the public to maintain a safe distance from any fallen power lines and to report the location of fallen wires as soon as possible.
