The modified AlumiFuel mix uses a higher percentage of aluminum and a lower percentage of the proprietary reactant additive. According to the company, this modification enables a simplified manufacturing process. The net result is a 60% increase in hydrogen generation yields and a 45% reduction in fuel production costs.

The company said that as it moves into the hardware engineering development stage with selected partners, the AlumiFuel upgrade makes its technology even more competitive for certain portable and stationary power applications. Hydrogen based-systems provide four to five times the energy density and runtime of lithium-ion batteries.

Dr Jasbir Anand, director of research and development, said: This breakthrough almost doubles the energy density of our proprietary AlumiFuel technology. Hydrogen Power is now ready to scale-up its in-house AlumiFuel manufacturing capability to fulfill the hydrogen demands of its target applications.
