The plants, which will be located in the district of Fort St. James and the Merritt city, will have the total capacity of 80MW.

The company will start developing the plants in November 2013 and February 2014, respectively.

Iberdrola Ingenieria will be responsible for all stages of construction and commissioning as well as building two transformer substations and the power lines connecting the plants to the grid.

The plants will be equipped with steam generators with a combustion technology and will supply electricity to 160,000 homes, while reducing 570,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2) per year.

The two plants will be fueled by sawdust and waste from local saw mills, forestry plantations and clean-up operations.

The project will provide 500 jobs during construction work, while 22 new direct jobs will be created for the plant’s operation and maintenance.
