The contract covers supply of GE’s advanced technology 9F gas turbine that delivers power with high efficiency, availability, reliability and low emissions, as well as operations and maintenance of the turbine for 25 years.

In March 2013, Iberdrola bagged a €240m contract from the Swedish energy company Vattenfall to complete turnkey construction of Lichterfelde plant.

As per the contract, the company is responsible for the project’s entire development, including design, engineering, procurement, construction, assembly, as well as commissioning of the new plant.

Replacing an existing thermal power plant operating on the site since 1974, the new plant will have a total electrical capacity of 300MW and a thermal capacity of 230MW. It will supply electricity and district heating to the South western districts of Berlin.

Work on the plant is expected to start in February 2014, with start-up due for December 2016.

Iberdola and GE have collaborated on similar energy generation projects in Spain, Lithuania, Qatar or Algeria, over the last few years.
