Tri-State Generation and Transmission Association will buy the entire output of the wind farm under a 25-year contract.
The project, which is anticipated to be completed in 2017, will be situated near Iberdrola’s existing 75MW Twin Buttes wind farm.
The extension will feature 38 turbines, which are expected to generate enough energy for about 30,000 homes in Colorado.
Tri-State senior vice president of energy management Brad Nebergall said: "In 2014, approximately 24 percent of the energy Tri-State and its member systems delivered to cooperative members was generated from renewable resources, making us one of the leading utilities in the country for using renewable power.
"The Twin Buttes II Wind Project further reinforces our commitment to a diverse generation fleet built on cost-effective resources."
Tri-State is owned by 44 electric cooperatives and public power districts across Colorado, Nebraska, New Mexico and Wyoming.
Iberdrola Renewables is the US renewable energy division of parent firm Iberdrola. The company is currently generating power from over 40 renewable energy projects for its utility-scale customers in the country.
