Peñascal wind farm complex

Grid connection at the $400m project, which will feature 101 Gamesa G97 2MW machines, is expected by the end of 2014.

The Baffin project is the third plant in the 606MW Peñascal wind complex, which is claimed to be Iberdrola’s largest global renewables facility once it starts operations.

The other two plants in the complex, Peñascal 1 and Peñascal 2, have capacities of 202MW each and were commissioned in 2009 and 2010 respectively.

Iberdrola said the Peñascal complex, which is situated in Kenedy county, has been contributing to local economic development and job creation for the last six years.

Once Baffin has been commissioned, Peñascal will have the capacity to deliver energy for about 210,000 households in the US and reduce approximately 850,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions per year.

Iberdrola operates clean energy facilities in 19 US states and the company’s total wind power capacity in the country amounts to 5,443MW.

The company’s total wind power capacity will increase to 5,645MW once Baffin is connected to the grid.
