As per the contracts, the company will be responsible for all stages of construction and commissioning, as well as building two transformer substations for the 40MW Fort St. James biomass power plant and the 40MW Merritt facility as well as power lines connecting them to the grid.

The company is likely to start work on Fort St. James plant in November 2013, while work on the Merritt plant is scheduled to commence in February 2014.

To be equipped with ‘grate’ design steam generators, the plants, which will use sawdust and waste from local saw mills, forestry plantations and clean-up operations, will generate enough electricity to power around 160,000 homes and curb 570,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions annually.

The projects are expected to create an average of 500 construction jobs and about 22 new direct jobs for their operation and maintenance.
