The Ventotec Ost 2 offshore wind complex is at an advanced stage of the authorization procedure, and the farm is expected to be commissioned by 2014. Its 80 wind turbines of 5MW each will generate a total of 1.200GWh.

Ventotec Ost 2 is located in the northern part of the priority wind area known as Westlich Adlergrund, at a distance of some 40km from the nearest coastline, the island of Rugen. The average depth of the water is approximately 39mt.

Iberdrola Renovables has recently been awarded, together with Vattenfall, the construction rights to build an offshore wind farm in the UK. The North Sea zone, known as East Anglia Array, has the potential to develop up to 7,200MW of power, with construction is expected to begin in 2015.

Between 2010 and 2012, Iberdrola Renovables expects to invest EUR9bn to promote international expansion. The company said that it will earmark EUR4.9bn for the US, EUR1.9bn for the UK, EUR1bn for Spain and EUR1.2bn for Germany and the rest of the world.
