The renewables unit of Spain’s Iberdrola utility holds 100% of one and 49% of another of the three 10MW wind farms, for a total of 14.9MW. Using 2.5MW Nordex N90 wind turbines, the three wind farms are located in Moselle in the Lorraine region of northeastern France, where Iberdrola Renovables already operates the 6MW Saint Aubin wind farm and is building six more, which will have an aggregate capacity of 66.5MW.

The commissioning of these wind farms will raise Iberdrola Renovables total wind power capacity in France to 87MW in the first quarter of 2008. A large proportion of these projects came from the company’s 2006 acquisition of the Perfect Wind Company, which had projects in the pipeline adding up to 600MW.

The new wind farm complex further consolidates Iberdrola Renovables’s position in France. The Spanish firm said that it is strategically committed to international expansion, and recently bought 50% of Societa Energie Rinnovabili, which is to build 350MW of wind power capacity in Italy and 108MW in four wind farms in Hungary.
