The Mesaieed power plant’s construction is also being carried out by the Iberdrola subsidiary and is expected to be the largest in the Middle East with an installed capacity of more than 2,000MW.

The new installation is located to the northeast of the Mesaieed power plant, attached to two other control buildings. For its construction, around 25,000 cubic meters of cement and 3.5 million kilograms of steel are reportedly being used.

The substation incorporates three gas insulated switchyards of 400kV, 220kV and 132kV capacities, which facilitate maintenance and guarantee continued operation in adverse conditions.

The control, protection and measurement system of this new Iberdrola Ingenieria y Construccion (Iberinco) designed substation is connected by fiber optics to the state electricity company Kahramaa’s National Control Center.
