The iGo surge protectors are planned to be deployed in offices throughout RSF to reduce the overall energy consumption of the new facility.
The iGo Green Technology products operate by automatically detecting when a device is not in use and shuts off power drawn from the wall. This is claimed to reduce wasted standby power–also known as vampire power—by up to 85%.
The iGo Power Smart Tower consists of four outlets with iGo Green Technology to reduce vampire power and four ‘always on’ outlets for devices that need continuous power.
Walter Thornton, vice president of product management and supply chain at iGo, said: “iGo is proud to be an integral part of the Department of Energy’s new Research Support Facility, helping it become one of the most energy efficient office buildings in the US.
“Our goal is to help reduce vampire power in every home and office. Every little bit counts when saving money and helping protect the environment.”
