Under the terms of the contract, the consortium will engineer, procure and construct two power generating units of 800MW each.

The group will also construct power block buildings and facilities at the existing Talin Thermal Power Plant located in Kaohsiung District in southern Taiwan.

The new units are expected to replace the existing facilities at the plant in line with Taipower’s long-term power development program.

The consortium consists of Taiwan based CTCI Corporation which will be responsible for supplying the balance of plant and executing civil and installation work for boilers and the balance of plant

Sumitomo Corporation will undertake civil and installation work of steam turbines, generators and other auxiliary equipment to be supplied by and Toshiba Corporation.

IHI will supply boilers and will be responsible for technical and commercial leadership of the consortium.

Commercial operations are anticipated to begin in 2016 for Unit 1 and 2017 for Unit2.

Taipower said it intends to expand and renew large capacity thermal power plants with higher efficiency and lower CO2 emissions than subcritical-pressure power generating systems.
