The installation of EV charging stations is part of IKEA’s partnership with ECOtality, which is engaged in clean electric transportation and storage technologies.

IKEA said the drivers can charge their EV at IKEA Tempe by swiping their Blink InCard (RFID card) and plugging the charger into the EV.

As the project manager of The EV Project, ECOtality is overseeing the deployment of about 14,000 commercial and residential charging stations in 18 cities and major metropolitan areas in six states and the District of Columbia.

The EV Project is funded in part by a federal stimulus grant from the US Department of Energy made possible by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act to provide the necessary infrastructure to support the deployment of EVs.

ECOtality Arizona area manager Marc Sobelman said installing Blink charging stations at IKEA Tempe allows EV drivers to charge at a location that is situated in a highly visible and accessible area.

"It is exciting for us to work together with IKEA to help build the public charging infrastructure necessary for mass EV adoption," Sobelman said.
