The strategy will focus on three areas — offering energy-efficient consumer products, using 100% renewable energy at the group’s stores and buildings, and supporting sustainability throughout the supply chain.

The group expects to meet 100% of its energy requirements through renewable energy by 2020.

Ikea Group chief sustainability officer Steve Howard said, "People & Planet Positive will also enable us to take our responsibilities in the supply chain further over the coming years by, for example, only using renewable energy to power our buildings and advocating for children’s rights."

The company’s wind energy pipeline includes 180MW of energy from wind projects around the world in addition to over 342,000 solar panels installed on stores and buildings. Ikea has recently purchased a 12.3MW wind farm in Scotland.

Ikea Group president and CEO Mikael Ohlsson noted that the firm has been working towards sustainable practices for many years and was ready for the next step.

"People & Planet Positive will help us to do that; transforming our business and having an even greater positive impact on the world," he added.
